Quite often, I’ve been asked about how to visit Armenia and what the visa requirements are for citizens of different countries.
Based on these many requests, I’ve decided to write a helpful guide about the Armenia visa that includes the e-visa application process, the Armenia travel visa (also known as a tourist visa), and more.
Armenia Visa: From Free Entry to Countries That Require it in Advance
Armenia offers a flexible, traveler-friendly visa system with options for short- and long-term stays in Yerevan and other parts of the country.
Whether you’re planning a vacation, business trip, or long-term relocation, understanding the available Armenian visa types and requirements will help ensure a smooth entry.
Types of Visas Armenia Provides
Below you can find the Armenian visa types that the country provides, where you can find your preferred one based on your trip type.
Armenia Offers the Following Main Visa Categories
- Tourist Visa: For individuals visiting for leisure or sightseeing. This is the most common Armenian travel visa and is available via e-visa or at consulates.
- Visitor Visa: For those visiting friends, family, or attending private events in Armenia.
- Business Visa: Issued to individuals attending meetings, conferences, or business events.
- Official Visa: For government or diplomatic visitors.
- Transit Visa: For travelers passing through Armenia en route to another destination.
- Resident Visa (Long-Term Stay): For those seeking to live, study, or work in Armenia. Residency is required for stays longer than the visa-free or tourist periods.
Armenia Visa-Free Entry (Up to 180 Days Per Year)
Below you can find the list of countries whose citizens do not need an Armenian travel visa to visit Armenia for a short period of time as a tourist.
Countries Eligible
European Union: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden.
The European Free Trade Association Countries (EFTA): Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland.
Other Countries
Australia, Bahrain, Belarus, Brazil, China, Ecuador, Georgia, Hong Kong, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Macao, Moldova, Montenegro, New Zealand, Oman, Panama, Qatar, Russia, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Vatican City.
Requirements: Valid passport (must be valid at least 3 months beyond stay).
Duration: Up to 180 days per year.
Process: No visa required; just present your passport on arrival.
Armenia Visa-Free Entry (Up to 90 Days Within 180 Days)
Countries
- Iran
- China (for ordinary passport holders)
Requirements: Valid passport
Stay Duration: 90 days within 180 days
Process: No visa required
Special Armenia Visa-Free Arrangements
Ukraine: Up to 90 days within 180 days. May enter using internal ID.
Albania: All passport types; up to 180 days.
Georgia: Visa-free up to 360 days; Georgian citizens may enter with an ID card if arriving directly from Georgia.
Armenia Visa-Free Entry for Latin American Countries
- Visa-Free (Up to 180 Days): Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Panama, Ecuador, Venezuela, Costa Rica
- Visa-Free (if holding residence permit from EU/US/Schengen/Gulf – until Dec 31, 2025): Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Paraguay, Bolivia, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua
Requirements: Valid passport (and residence permit, if applicable)
Temporary Armenia Visa Exemption
Nationals of 116 countries who hold valid residence permits (valid for at least 6 months) from:
- United States
- European Union
- Schengen countries
- UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman
Residence permit holders are temporarily exempt from needing an Armenian travel visa and can stay in Armenia for up to 180 days in one year.
Good to know: Visa policies can change. It is always recommended to check the official website of the Embassy of Armenia in your country or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia for the most up-to-date information before traveling.
Countries That Require an Armenian Visa in Advance
Travelers from many African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian nations must apply for an Armenia visa at an embassy or consulate before travel.
Armenia E-Visa Eligible Countries
Citizens of many countries can apply for an Armenia e-visa online through the official eVisa portal. Armenian E-visas are typically granted for 21 or 120 days for tourism or business.
E-Visa Eligible Countries Are:
Algeria, Bolivia, Cuba, Egypt, Grenada, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jamaica, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam
Armenia Visa for US Citizens
- Visa-free for up to 180 days per year
- No Armenian travel visa is needed
- Valid passport required (minimum 3 months beyond stay)
Armenia Visa for Indian Citizens
- Indian nationals must apply for an Armenia e-visa or obtain a visa through an embassy
- Eligible for 21 or 120-day stays
- Indian citizens with valid US, Schengen, or UAE visas may qualify for temporary visa-free entry under the 2025 policy
Armenia Visa for Canadian Citizens
- Canadian citizens can enter Armenia visa-free for up to 180 days per year
- Valid Canadian passport required
- For stays longer than 180 days, apply for residency
General Armenian Travel Visa Requirements
If you require an Armenian visa, you will likely need the following:
- Valid passport (at least 6 months beyond your stay)
- Completed visa application form
- Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host invitation)
- Two passport-sized photographs
- Travel itinerary (flight confirmation)
- Proof of funds for your stay
- Valid travel or health insurance
- Invitation letter (only for some nationalities)
